The Difference in Garage Door SpringsThere are 2 different types of garage door springs. Each one is unique, here is the difference between the two:
- Torsion springs- Attached just above the closed garage door, they are the most popular because they are sturdier and last longer. These springs allow for a smooth controlled motion, which keeps your system running right. We recommend for torsion springs to be replaced in 15,000 to 20,000 cycles.
- Extension springs- Located above the upper tracks on both sides of your garage door. They cost less but need to be replaced sooner. These also have a jerking motion, causing your door to need adjusting more frequent. We recommend that extension springs be replaced at around 10,000 cycles.
